Some of this is going to sting. A sixth-round running back got buried by a tenth-round running back. A team scored 59 points and none of its three receivers you drafted cracked double digits. Somebody in your league started Christian Watson and is insufferable now.
Here's what changed, what to do about it, and exactly where your waiver money goes. You weren't getting anything done this morning anyway.
STORY OF THE WEEK
Chuba Hubbard buried Jonathan Brooks
Everyone took Brooks from early August on as the clear Carolina RB1 — as early as the sixth round. Hubbard slid to the ninth and tenth. Week 1 said the opposite in every single column.
| Hubbard | Brooks | |
| Snaps | 48 | 13 |
| Fantasy points | 23 | 7 |
| Carries | 10 | 4 |
| Rush yards | 49 | 14 |
Hubbard also took the rushing touchdown, more targets, more receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown. That's not a committee. That's a lead back.
Brooks — hold. He can still carve into this. If somebody offers sixth- or seventh-round value, sell instantly and don't blink. You probably won't get that offer, and then you ride it out. That was the gamble and you took it knowingly.
Hubbard — buy. People are still skeptical. That's the window.
OUT OF NOWHERE
Jalen Coker went nuclear
Nine targets, eight catches, 138 yards, two touchdowns — about 33 points from a guy most of you couldn't pick out of a lineup last week. Context: that's one more target than Tetairoa McMillan, who managed a modest 10.5 with a lost fumble. Coker's day was two trips to the house. Not repeatable.
But Carolina's defense gave up 59 points. This team is throwing all season, and that volume goes to Coker and McMillan.
Verdict: if he's on your wire, spend real money. Not a league winner — a flex that can pop
DON’T PANIC YET?
Chicago scored 59 and the Bears WRs did nothing
Seven touchdowns and a field goal. Luther Burden III, Rome Odunze and Colston Loveland combined for 16.5 points. None hit double digits. The leading Bears scorer was Kalif Raymond, who led the team with nine targets. Cole Kmet caught a touchdown on fewer snaps.
Now the part that should calm you down:
| Loveland played 65 snaps and saw two targets. Usage picked up exactly where it left off last season. The role is intact; the ball wasn't. |
| Burden played 75% of snaps — including 95% of 11-personnel snaps, up from 45% last year — and 15 of 23 snaps in two-receiver sets. This is exactly the on-field role we wanted. |
We told you this was the Bears risk: an offense good enough to score 50 with everyone cannibalizing everyone. We just never guessed Kalif Raymond would be the one eating.
Verdict: hold all three. Sell none of them. Ceilings may get capped week to week, but the roles are real.
WHO YOU’RE SWEATING THIS WEEK
|
Zay Flowers — hamstring. Put up 26.25 in a quarter and a half and was on pace for 50. Hamstrings linger, so sweat it. But he looked incredible. Kyler Murray — concussion. Probably a couple of weeks. The backup can still feed McBride and Wilson. Ladd McConkey — chest, did not return. Severity unclear. Monitor closely; that's a third- or fourth-round pick. Jayden Higgins — done for the season. Brock Bowers — out, could be back as early as this week. Josh Jacobs — out. His return erases the Green Bay backfield question entirely. |
WAIVER WIRE
Where the money goes
Straight up: there are no league winners on this wire. One guy is worth real money. Everyone else is a lottery ticket. Budget accordingly.
| Budget | Player & why |
| 15–25% |
Priority add Kaelon Black RB · SF Number one add of the week and it isn't close. Available in two-thirds of Sleeper leagues. He got more work with McCaffrey on the field than anyone expected, and if CMC misses time this is a 100% workload. If you own CMC, overpay. |
| 5–15% |
Caleb Douglas WR · MIA Pure upside. Young, wide-open situation, real draft capital, and a team that could funnel him targets. Fair warning: the Raiders were one of their best matchups of the year. |
| 5–10% |
Devaughn Vele WR · NO Led all Saints receivers in snaps and drew nine targets (Olave had 13). Clear number two. If Tyler Shough throws it 35+ a week, Vele is a volume play in the mold of what Shaheed used to be. Especially good if you're thin at receiver. |
| 5–10% |
Dontayvion Wicks WR · PHI Had a touchdown and a couple of chunk plays, and led the team. DeVonta Smith was quiet outside one big catch. This looks like the second option in that offense. |
| 0–5% |
Braelon Allen RB · NYJ Had a touchdown run called back and took red-zone and goal-line work ahead of Breece Hall. Not new, but a genuinely valuable handcuff. Grab him if you have the roster spot. |
| 0–5% |
Kendrick Bourne WR · ARI Eight targets. He does this every single year going back to New England, and then you never hear his name again. Not buying it. |
| 0–5% |
Kalif Raymond WR · CHI Led the Bears in targets. Ben Johnson might keep mixing him in and it's a good offense. Not a favorite, but if you're desperate and someone's on IR, fine. |
| 0–5% |
Michael Mayer TE · LV Relevant only until Bowers is back, which could be this week. He does this two or three times a season. |
| $0 |
Demarcus Robinson WR · SF Had a touchdown. Do not spend a dollar. Free pickup or nothing — Evans, Deebo, McCaffrey and Kittle are who matter there. |
CUT LIST
Safe to drop
Roster space for the adds above. None of these are coming back.
| ✕ |
Drop Kaleb Johnson RB · GB Did nothing and isn't going to. Pure roster clog, especially in shallow formats. |
| ✕ |
Drop Tyjae Spears RB · TEN You don't want two running backs in that offense. You barely want one. |
| ✕ |
Drop Travis Hunter WR · JAX Barely played on offense. The dream is fun. The snap count isn't. |
| ✕ |
Drop Mike Washington RB · LV Jeanty is going to dominate those carries. There's nothing left here. |
| ✕ |
Drop Kayshon Boutte WR · HOU Just traded in and buried behind Nico Collins in an offense that runs through Collins and Montgomery. Nothing to wait on. |
So, that’s the short version.
The full breakdown has every snap split, every target share, and a lot more feelings about Marvin Harrison Jr. than are strictly healthy.
